Jeremiah 10:1-11:23; Colossians 3:18-4:18; Psalm 78:56-72; Proverbs 24:28-29

The ultimate priority of our lives should not be God and, but God period.

Jeremiah is calling out to a people who had placed other things alongside God. They continued their traditional acts of worship and tacit acknowledgment of God but stopped making him the central reality and object of worship in their lives. Jeremiah describes the foolishness of this activity by reminding us who God is.

God is great (10:6). God is king (10:7). God is wise (10:7). God is alive (10:10). God is eternal (10:10). God created the world (10:12). God disciplines and judges (10:24-25).  God is unparalleled and nothing will ever remotely approach his greatness. Therefore, nothing should match the way we respond and prioritize him in our lives.

Question of the day: What truth of God's character can you cling to today to remember his surpassing greatness?

Father God, nothing compares to you. There is no one and nothing as great as you. Help me to worship you alone and live for your glory alone, in the face of so many distractions. Amen.
